The Master and His Servant Part 2 – Spa Day

Have you ever had a spa day?

Have you ever been pampered?

Have you ever been given a luxurious gift?

Have you ever been treated like royalty?

Have you ever been waited on like they say ‘hand and foot’ as if you are a King or Queen?

If you have, let me ask you; How did you feel after the experience?

This morning I was reading Psalm 37:4 “Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

I decided to check out the Hebrew root meaning of the word ‘Delight’ in my concordance and I was in for a shocker….. and I just started laughing.

The word delight means: to make merry over someone, to take exquisite delight in someone, to take luxurious care over someone, to be delicate and soft and to pamper someone, to live a life of enjoyment.

If you put this Hebrew concordance meaning into the scripture, the servant of The Lord is supposed to make merry over The Lord, treat The Lord as if He is at a spa day, pamper The Lord, take exquisite delight in The Lord, treat the Lord like Royalty all the time.

I know as servants of The Lord we are to approach Him reverently, however that concordance explanation added some strong descriptive adjectives and that was what got me laughing. Now, I can imagine Jesus coming to my home, and getting a luxurious pedicure, manicure, facial treatment or back massage.

In Luke Chapter 7 we read a story about a day when Jesus was invited to eat at the home of a Pharisee. While sitting at the table, a woman who was a prostitute and a sinner came and publicly washed Jesus' feet with her tears and gave him a foot rub and massage using the the expensive perfume in the Alabaster box she brought with her.

This woman was a notorious sinner, the Pharisee who invited Jesus to his home said in his heart, “If Jesus were a real prophet, he would have known that the woman touching him is a sinner.”

Jesus knew her and knew about her, but he permitted her to give him the spa treatment. This woman sat on the floor at the feet of Jesus, she washed his feet with her tears, wiped his feet with her hair, massaged all the expensive ointment onto his skin and kissed his feet. She was DELIGHTING herself in The Lord.

Let’s see what happened to her:

Psalm 37

40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

She came into the room a sinner and after she delighted herself in The Lord, she received forgiveness of all her notorious sins and left a forgiven cleansed person. Glory To God!

Imagine the joy that filled her heart as she left the room with assurance that God had forgiven her sins. She didn’t even say a word to Jesus about her prayer request, she just went and loved much on Jesus and treated him like exquisite royalty and he saw her heart and granted her request.

How can you delight yourself in The Lord right now?

What can we do to The Lord or for The Lord that will bring delight to his heart?

We can obey the written word, quick obedience without resentment or attitude in the heart delights his heart.

We can make ourselves and our resources available for God’s kingdom service.

We can treat other member of the body of Christ like royalty.

Think about it some more… In my life, how can I treat The Lord to a Spa Day everyday?
