I Am Forgiven

Jesus was invited to dinner in the house of a Pharisee named Simon. As the dinner progressed a woman came into the room, she made a beeline for Jesus and sat on the floor beside him. She began to weep and wash his dusty feet with her tears. She then wiped off the dust and tears with her hair and broke the alabaster perfume jar she came with, poured the perfume on his feet and massaged his feet. The precious delicate fragrance of the apothecary that cost about a year’s worth of wages wafted through the room from Jesus’ feet and created a beautiful, pleasant odor in the entire room.

It was a spectacular open public display of love for Jesus, she spoke volumes with her actions even though she said nothing with her words. Jesus did not attempt to stop her rather; he allowed her to do what was on her heart.

Jesus' host, the Pharisee spoke in his heart:

Like 7: 39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

Jesus said out loud

Luke 7: 47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

What a joyful moment it was for the woman, she knew she needed forgiveness for her many sins.

How did she get it?

She displayed and acted out her great love for Jesus. Jesus said "... For she loved much."

This statement indicated that love of man for God is in levels. It can move from: 'No Love' to 'Great Love.' Jesus was pleased with her display of great love.

How else did she get it?

Jesus came to set the captives free and she was freed that very moment he declared that her sins were forgiven. Jesus was not intimidated by her sins and wrongdoings, rather he allowed her to communicate her now repentant heart and extended mercy to her. The guilt and shame of her past was washed away and she left the room without her burden, pain, torment and fear. She left with peace and joy
